| 6 Feb Sat Game v Daytona-- WIN |
| A fun game...because we won...on the last play. We started strong and dominated through the half, though the lead was only 2 Trys. A couple mistakes, a couple breaks, and a couple bad calls, all the usual, and we were behind going into the final minute. We needed a Try AND make the points after....which we did. At the After Party, only 2Hottie and Water H were there to kill the Keg. |
| 13 Feb Sat Game at Brevard 17-74 |
| No good deed goes unpunished. With 5 players out due to scheduling issues, 2 injured players where put on the pitch, along with 4 other irregulars, and we put on quite a show. We lost "Bake Sale Stanley" and the Ref on the opening kickoff. From there, more confusion, but a game did insue, and there wasn't much more we could do but have fun. It was a BIG loss, however, much positive came from this outing, I suspect we'll see the benefits as soon as next week. |
| 6 Feb Sat Game at West Palm 12-25 |
|
Always good to play not far from home. Numbers never been better. Excellent pregame. Good play first half, better in the second. Despite the host cancelling, uncancelling the game, and pushing the kickoff to a time where I couldn't attend the full game, the match had everything we could want. We won't be the same team again.
| 23 Jan Game at Pasco - Loss |
| Mighty long ride. Started Friday night thinking I had 21 people going, we left the parking lot Saturday morning with 16. Fine match, wet fields created a little excitement. After party mellow but well attended. Nice digs. | |

| 9 Jan. Game v West Palm 5-20(?) |
| Freezing temperatures, wind and rain, who could ask for more? Very even match. A couple of mistakes made the difference. There was a great piece at the end where the Pirates must of had 5 transitions and kept possession for a couple minutes before questionable call by the ref stopped them at 5 m line. Pirates showed an unfamiliar consistancy of play, better form going into rucks and mauls. Good hands, especailly considering the weather. The new players held their own and are well on their way to being considered dependable and effective. |
| 5 Dec. Game at Daytona 24-20 |
| How many Pirates does it take to win an away game? With no Coach and a newly elected Captain, 15 Pirates set sail for Daytona and finished the day with a win. Congratulations! Thanks for winning one for Jacque. |
| 27 Nov. Fri 7pm-ish POKER at Shawn's |
| Enough time with the family. Come out and play one of lifes simpler games. Oh yes, there will be drinking. |
| 17 Nov. Seedy-Bar Social |
| Taking advantage of what time we have left with Meatball, we set sail down the Treasure Coast honoring the Seediest, Pirate welcoming bars/saloons/watering-holes. Started at Boozwah (sp?) and ends at .... |
| 14 Nov Game vs Redeye at HOME they won |
| Two trys for us as usual. Great kicking by Penguin, really. Brian S. scored a Try and was honored with a post game plank. Call this game a starting point for the new season. Shouldn't be hard to improve upon. |
| 24 Oct Oldster v Youngster |
| Oldsters Win!....Although that's not a surprise, the cut off level this year dropped drasticly to 25 years of age. Pip and Barry showed the most grey, followed by Roy, Ian, myself, Tank, Juice, Nick, Shawn, Procop, KC, Joel, Hortez(?) Penguin and Frado rounded out the winning side. |
| 17 Oct Playoffs, All Florida Days, Taverus Park |
| The opponent changed but the result stayed the same, Pirates won by a try+. As last year, the after party "wasn't". |
| 03 Oct Sat. 3pm GAME vs West Palm!! at home! |
| Win. Full roster. Game decided by the last try in the last minute of the game, plus the point after. Bodies got tired, minds wanted to quit, Pirate hearts came out and won the day. Post game one of ours found he'd been injured to the point he'd not be able to continue rugby. A mixed day. |
| 19 Sept Sat. GAME v Tridents B in Miami 0-17 |
| No good deed goes unpunished. We gave them more time to recover 'tween games, and we got rewarded with our game being called at halftime due to "inclimate weather". The pitch side social did not lift the gloom and we left with a bad taste in our mouths. |
| 13 Sept Sunday Pirate Fest downtown Stuart |
| Was good to see the natives in their pretend get-ups. My Wench and I paraded around in our authentic TCPRFC garb and sampled the wares. When the rain started we had the Fest to ourselves...of course we had a great time! We finished our stroll with a drink at The Ashley, which closed it's doors for good the next day. Shame to lose another tavern. |
| 12 Sept Saturday GAME!! v St Pete's 5-40 |
|
First half was 0-8. Then we played our guys who had no experience, two with no practices. They showed, they played. Will be great contributors. We finished the game having scored a try, and had all the games big hits. A fine overcast day, flooded field, no injury stoppages for us, 3 for them. After party, no contest. Of note...due to lack of Tradition on the P'cans part, after much consternation, we honored one of their players with a The Plank.
Furby got Man of the Match, as well as Hit of the Week. Great job by all! And a thank you to KC and Joel for risking limb a fortnight before their trip to Europe. Without them we'd have traveled with 15. |
| 18 July Barefoot 7's Fort Myers Beach |
| Great numbers, beautiful day, and for the first time in 5 years no rain. The Pimms was gone before the finals, as was our interest. Church was moved from the Surf Club to Jimmy B's. Great weekend to wrap up 7's. |
| 20 June Saturday 7's Tourney in West Palm |
|
9 Players, 5 games, 1 Bowl! Yes, the Pirates brought home a bowl from this weekends tourney. First two games-loss, next two where wins by 2 points, followed by a win via sudden death. A long day, but worth the drive.
Every player made huge contributions on multiple occassions. Frado is unofficial MOTM, for finaly finding out what those things are at the end of his wrists! The team with more heart won out.
| 13 June Saturday Sunshine State Games Saturday |
|
6 Forwards went. Each game was a trouncing...we won 1 of 3. Lots of sun and fun. Thanks to the Vechi (both), Penguin, Furby, Frado and me! |
| 28 Mar Saturday STATE TITLE @ Pasco --Loss 10-23 |
|
A close game through the first half. Reffing was good. Play was clean. Score was 10 - 20 something. Two trys to each side with kicking making up the remainder. A disappointing way to end the season, but WHAT A SEASON!! |
| 21 Mar Saturday GAME @ Ft Lauderdale -Win |
|
There was wind, rain, mud and victory. Quinticential rugby weather. Although Ft Lauderdale was shut out the first half, they did put together a good push in the beginning of the 2nd half and scored two trys. It wasn't until the later part of the half that Treasure Coast equalized with their two trys, adding to the 4 trys in the first half for a definative win.
Good play by the Pirates. Support improved a lot, and play was unselfish, the results speak for themselves. |

| 7 Mar Saturday Pirates v Krewe "B" 34 - 21 Win! |
|
In contrast to last game, we had a full roster of Pirates at the pitch, ready to play. Krewe had full roster as well, and good rugby ensued. The first half ended with the Pirates down 7-21.
Sin-Bin Taylor takes Man of the Match for a 2nd consecative time! |
| 21 Feb Saturday at Paso County 5-49? |
|
14 Pirates went to Pasco and played against Pasco's 18. Pasco showed a great kicking game, and new imported talent. At the conclusion of the match Pirates still had 14 players on the field, injuries to Pasco's roster forced them to play the last 10 min with 14 players, that's all they had left! Props to the 14! Arrgh....
In other news, when the Pirates played on Saturday they had no certified coaches. By Sunday they had 3. |
| 7 Feb Saturday Game vs Ft. Lauderdale 21-17 Win! |
|
It was an unexpected game. It was cold. They were big. Between injuries and work we didn't know who would be able to play. It was bloody. It was hard hitting. It was beautiful! Pure Pirate Rugby!!
First half saw the score 0-0. Second half we came outta the gate with a quick try via multiple passes between our outside back players. Just like we had discussed at half. At the 50 minute mark, they scored. Followed shortly by another score...according to the ref.
A tackle of Ft Lauderdal in their own Try Zone gave them a 22 drop, they tried to punt, which was blocked and run in for another Pirate Try. I can't tell you what it looked like, but it felt great :-). Another run by the backs on the opposite side in the closing 9 minutes recaptured and held the lead till match end.
A win at home...how sweet it is.
After party at Gators Dockside, soon to be renamed, gave us the opportunity to once again float a keg, sing songs, and name our man-of-the-match. Only thing that could have made it better would have been more old boys to share the afternoon with.
|
| Bring it to practice Thursday at Lawnwood Stadium 6:30-8pm |
| New fines for missing practice and not letting us know!! |
| 31 Jan Saturday---GAME @ Tampa B 19-6 Win! |
Despite having five players start who were either hurt, sick, or drunk, the Pirates finsihed with 3 trys. Tampa had 2 field goals. OUTSTANDING. As usual, the Pirates brought a hard hitting game to the opponents. I heard Tampa players saying "ouch.." and "are you kidding?! this has got to stop". After one drive I looked around and there where 3 opponents down, and one Pirate... who was tying his shoe. 80-90% of the game was played on the Tampa half of the field. We executed some skills brought from practice this week and even heard mumblings on the side line about "textbook..." We've got wind in our sails and the crew is getting salty.
On the way up we honored tradition by stopping at the Desert Inn, and on return The Fox and Hounds Irish Pub. |
| 25 Jan Sunday 1-4pm. Brian Trew's Band in Vero |
| Pirate alum Brian Trew to be playing good Celtic music at the Driftwood. Map |
| 24 Jan SATURDAY ---GAME!!!--- v Pasco 10-13? |
| Game v Pasco in PSL. 3 points short of a win. We each had a mistake and a difficult ref. Otherwise a solid game. From the side lines we looked our most balanced to date. Very good play overall. |

8 Jan 09 Friendly v Jupiter in West Palm 4 trys to 5 trys |
|
What a hoot! For a Thursday, heck any day, its great to see us pull out 16 regulars. The 8:30 game started with Pirates pushing the Jup's all over the field. Then after about 20 min the game began to change.
PLAY: Great ball movement. Once it got out of the center we did a great job of passing the ball down the line. These guys are just really fast, so it didn't create the points we would usually produce.
REF: Fair. Although I'm still miffed that there are no calls for lieing on top of the ball (supporting ones self by arms, not legs).
How I ended up with mulitple face injuries, including two black eyes, is beyond me. I'll have to wait until our next game to decide if its a coaching issue. |
| Pirates vs Jupiter Dec 20 FPL scores 3 Trys |
|
They came, we lost. Better than most of our encounters, our 3 trys came from smart assists by Penguin. Jupiter had numbers, speed, and youth. And as usual we knocked about 3 of theirs out of the game due to injuries and we didin't lose anyone to injury.
In the begining we showed what our practises have been teaching and it was rather successful. The reffing leaned hard toward letting play continue. The leinency for off-sides and diving over the ball meant we had to change tactics. At this point, we don't have any other tactics.
Issues with defence on the wings can be worked on. Many trys were scored on long runs down the sideline. Coaching needs to stress greater responsibility to shift in the backfeild. In my day as an opposite winger if you beat the fullback I'd be there to knock you outta bounds.
Very pleased with tackling and "staying low". Be it from better conditioning or better form, we kept our attacks lower and consequently more effective. I love it. Keep it up.
